Dream Talk by Still Corners is out now

April 5th 2024. Still Corners has released Dream Talk worldwide.

"Subtly perfecting their sound for nearly 15 years now, Still Corners continue to combine transportive guitars, lush atmospherics, versatile rhythms, and warm synths with Tessa’s ethereal vocals and windswept melodies in magnetic fashion." KEXP

"The entire album is more of an immersive experience than just a record. From the opening track to the last note on the album, the incredible guitar work of Greg Hughes is prevalent and strong throughout, with a notable solo in ‘Lose More Slowly’, which is a beautiful piece. The haunting vocals of Tessa and wonderfully layered instrumentals make for a song that is captivating and definitely one that I will be eager to listen to again. It’s kind of addictive." - Music News Monthly

"Murray and multi-instrumentalist Greg Hughes combine perfectly on shoegaze-pop-meets-gothic-Americana" - Scottish Daily Express

"Dream Talk is the duo’s sixth album and they are expert drivers behind the wheel of a pristinely maintained ’60s convertible, piloting under a beautiful desert sky full of stars." Brooklyn Vegan

"Tessa Murray’s captivating vocals glide across a variety of beautifully crafted soundscapes inspired by her own nocturnal musings and fragmented dreams...Greg Hughes’ production adds a glow of iridescent moonlit brilliance." Under the Radar

“At times romantic, swooning and mysterious this is a yearning piece of stylish dream pop ripe for a wider audience and will be perfect for the summer (if it ever comes) as we sway to it as the sun goes down on a festival evening.” Next to the Aisle

"Dream Talk is an alluring reminder of the power of visions and fantasies from a group that's mastered how to bring them to life." All Music

Still Corners release Today is the Day

March 27th 2024. The season is once again changing and with it comes a poignant new single from Still Corners.  "Today is the Day" radiates the warmth of the first days of spring, a song about change being the only constant in life and seizing the moment while you can.  Written in Woodstock, NY and featuring acoustic guitar, bass guitar and a beautiful orchestral ending, Today is the Day glides across a wide open sky and invites the listener to live for today.

Tessa Murray says "You have all sorts of connections with songs you write but some seem to connect on a deeper level for whatever reason and this song does that for us.  I think there were two sides to this song, one is that we wanted to say something about seizing the moment as life is precious and tomorrow is not promised and that is echoed in the chorus, Today is the Day etc.  On the other side there's this connection to nature and that's peppered throughout the lyrics as well.  Yeats once said, "The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper".  I really believe that and when we were out filming this video by all the trees and birds and just hearing that acoustic guitar out there, it felt ancient and old and it was something I had to be reminded of.  Sitting there by the brook I thought maybe I'll be lucky and catch a glimpse of something deeper."

Official video for Crystal Blue

March 13th 2024. Still Corners have released the official video for Crystal Blue, directed by Lucy Dyson. Commenting on the collaboration, Lucy said:

"Crystal Blue is my fourth music video for Still Corners, and as always, it’s so lovely to get to develop a visual concept for their music, and this song has so many gorgeous elements; it sounds like the sea and a summer breeze, and the peacefulness I feel when snorkelling (is there a more peaceful creature than the seahorse?). So, working with the beautiful 8mm footage they provided me with, and Tessa’s lovely silk shirt as the perfect colour pallet, I created a multifaceted video piece bringing together the elements that the music evokes for me; the gentle sway of a coral reef, mottled Neptune hues, and the mesmerising motions of seagulls hovering to the music carried by the wind."

Still Corners share Crystal Blue

February 23rd 2024. Still Corners have released Crystal Blue, the third single from Dream Talk. Crystal Blue is a torch song about two lovers separated by the sea, dreaming of reuniting one day.  Hours go by, day and night, the breeze touches their skin, the waves become their only friends as they wait to meet again under the same moon.  A soft drum beat, congas and a solitary marimba patter away as Tessa Murray asks, "Do fishes sleep, in the ocean blue?  Do you dream of me like I dream of you?".  A crystal clear guitar solo whisks the listener to the far side of the world as the couple head off to a place they've never heard of just to see each other again.

Still Corners release The Dream

January 23rd 2024. "Are you sure that we are awake? It seems to me that yet we sleep, we dream." This quote from Shakespeare is the central theme for Still Corners new sonic masterpiece "The Dream", the latest single from their upcoming 6th Album "Dream Talk". Shakers and a lone rhythm guitar drop into a fast paced beat of bass and drums, gradually revealing the melodic voice of Tessa Murray on a train travelling at speed through a desert at night - "We are on a night train, heading to the east end". Shifting synths combine with a climatic build of congas gradually revealing a beautiful and epic tale of a "dream within a dream". The song finishes off with a crystalline guitar solo from her partner in crime Greg Hughes. This is Still Corners at their most seductive and romantic.

The video is based on the duo's deep love of mystery novels and cosy crime fiction. Tessa Murray plays a new character called "Penelope Braithwaite" as she investigates the "Mystery of the Repeating Dream". Folks from the fictitious town of "Reverwood, Sussex" have been falling into a repeating dream trap, when they wake up they realise they are in fact in the same dream. Penelope arrives at a mysterious house to investigate. Does she solve the mystery or is she too stuck in a looping dream? Beautifully filmed in England by the band themselves and featuring steam trains and a dilapidated mansion set on vast gardens, this is a detective story not to be missed!

Still Corners release Secret World official video

December 10th 2023. Still Corners has released the official video for Secret World and announced US Tour dates.

Tessa Murray said "And the secret garden bloomed and bloomed and every morning revealed new miracles".  That was our initial inspiration behind the video for Secret World, taken from The Secret Garden novel.  In the video I'm pulled into another world by the Plant Lady and try to escape but ultimately end up stuck there and I'm not entirely sure that's a bad thing."

Still Corners set to release Dream Talk

December 5th 2023. On Friday 5th April 2024, Still Corners will release their sixth album, “Dream Talk”.  Beautifully arranged, elegant and wistful, Dream Talks is a set of ten carefully crafted classic songs.   From the autumnal opener "Today is the Day" to the hot summer night finale of "Turquoise Moon", Still Corners have created a sound that is focused, stylish and seductive.

Tessa Murray says, "The genesis for a lot of these songs came from dreams.  Every night I would write down the dreams I could remember.  While recording I would pull out my book of dreams and sing over various looped phrases Greg had been working on, the repetitive nature of the looping and singing almost felt like going into a trance.  A lot of the songs came from that process, it was fun and what I thought were sort of ramblings ended up surprising us with their various meanings and imagery."

The album was written in various places, the south of France, East Sussex, UK and Woodstock, New York.  Murray continues, “The songs came together quickly and being able to write from anywhere kept up our momentum".

Produced by Greg Hughes at the band’s studio in Woodstock, New York, Greg says "We experimented with various things like different mics, amps and effects before committing to anything.  Everything was mixed analog through our new SSL console, there's a gleam to the sound".

First single, Secret World, is about obsession. Murray writes “Sometimes the thought of someone, wanting to know them, get into their world is dangerous. The real person doesn’t matter anymore, just the fantasy of them, which is totally wrong but feels right."

A special ‘indie’ version of Dream Talk is available to pre-order on limited edition coke bottle green vinyl with a poster and download code and CD from select independent record shops direct from us.

Still Corners - Far Rider - Bernard Bur.jpg

Still Corners share the seven-minute desert-noir odyssey 'Far Rider'

February 22nd 2022. Ahead of a massive tour throughout Europe and the US this Spring, Still Corners have released ‘Far Rider’.

With the sun at its peak a weary desert traveller picks their way across the soft sandy floor trying to forget a lost love or maybe a past best forgotten. Crystal clear guitar lines drift in and out as the bass weaves and snakes over a tight drum beat. Tessa Murray croons steady as a pulse, as the song winds like a caravan toward the orange horizon.

Tessa explains, “This song is about leaving, lost love and finding yourself somewhere on the journey, really it’s about redemption. I recently drove 6000 miles across the southwest to feel the sun on my face and think.  We used the dreamlike nature of the song to capture the landscape and a hypnotic feel to conjure up the long and lonely travel days.”

You can listen to the single on all streaming sites and purchase the single on Bandcamp now.

Still Corners share vibrant new single "Heavy Days" and announce US Tour and rescheduled European dates

September 14th 2021. Following the release of their widescreen, transportive fifth studio album THE LAST EXIT in January of 2021, dream-pop auteurs Still Corners return with a welcome bid for hope in the form of sweeping, propulsive new track "Heavy Days". A desert-noir soundtrack in miniature, ‘White Sands’ tells a classic ghost story of a phantom who roams the dunes and highways scaring travellers as they cross the land. Tessa Murray croons over a quick beat, clean-tone guitar and shimmering atmospherics.

On THE LAST EXIT, Still Corners return with a sweeping album about the open road.  Consisting of eleven beautifully crafted songs with organic instrumentation, romantic guitar lines, spacious drums and the wistful melancholy voice of Tessa Murray, THE LAST EXIT evokes the vast space of the desert and rolling unconcerned skies.

Still Corners release Crying, second single from 'THE LAST EXIT'

October 27th 2020. With their highly-anticipated new album ‘THE LAST EXIT’ due out on the 22nd January 2021, Still Corners unveil their latest single ‘Crying’.

Following on from the album’s title-track, which was released in September, ‘Crying’ sees them bring back more of that rich and ambient aesthetic they are known for. With its sweet yet sombre intention, their newest offering delivers a strong and heartfelt return that perfectly reflects their own personal and intimate direction.

Written during the pandemic, the band’s Tessa Murray explains, "The only constant in life is change, this song is about a breakup during a difficult time but it's also about coping with a fast moving uncertain world.  Our video shows the immense universe and inevitable change of the seasons.  Everything is in flux and that's the only thing that is certain."

Still Corners The Last Exit.png

Still Corners announce new album ‘The Last Exit’, out 22nd January 2021 via Wrecking Light Records

September, 16 2020 - THE LAST EXIT is the fifth studio album from Still Corners, which will be released on 22nd January 2021 on Wrecking Light Records.

With the shimmering desert noir sound the band has become known for, THE LAST EXIT takes you on a hypnotic journey, one filled with dilapidated towns, mysterious shapes on the horizon, and long trips that blur the line between what’s there and not there. Greg says, “We found something out there in the desert – something in the vast landscapes that went on forever."

THE LAST EXIT consists of eleven beautifully crafted songs with organic instrumentation, clean-toned guitar, spacious drums and the smoky croon of Tessa Murray. Album highlights include “The Last Exit”, “White Sands” and “Shifting Dunes” all of which evoke the vast space of the desert and rolling unconcerned skies.

The album was brought further into focus by the pandemic when almost everything was forced to stop. Tessa explains, “There's always something at the end of the road and for us it was this album. Our plans were put on hold – an album set for release, tours, video shoots, travel. We’d been touring nonstop for years, but we were forced to pause everything. We thought the album was finished but with the crisis found new inspiration and started writing again.”

It was in this context that songs like ‘Crying’, ‘Static”, ‘Till We Meet Again’ were written, reflecting on the impact of isolation and the need for social contact and intimacy.

First single, ‘The Last Exit’ is the final chapter of the Still Corners’ Road Trilogy. What began with ‘The Trip’ and was followed by ‘The Message’ concludes with the stunning ‘The Last Exit’.  The video, inspired by the 1975 film Picnic at Hanging Rock, finds Tessa pulled into the mysterious rocks of Joshua Tree.  Tessa explains -

"In a world where everyone thinks all the corners of the map are filled in we like to suggest there's something beyond that, something eternal in the landscape and in our psyche.  Maybe you don't see it every day but it's there and that's what we are trying to connect to."

With a galloping beat, teardrop vocals and silver-tone guitar, The Last Exit races down a lonely highway to destination unknown. Elegant and searching with a grand piano ending, The Last Exit will remind you of another world beyond the one you see.

Still Corners new album Slow Air announced

Pre-order 180 gram vinyl, CDs and t-shirts here.  Digital pre-order on Bandcamp.

SLOW AIR is the fourth album by Still Corners, released on Wrecking Light on 17th August 2018.  Evoking the atmospheric sounds Still Corners are known for, Slow Air continues the band's journey with an album full of tension and brooding all the while wrapped in a reverb laden dream.

Written in the hill country in Austin, Texas, Slow Air nods towards a classic sound with emphasis on the guitar, both acoustic and electric, combined with the alluring and ghostly voice of Tessa Murray. The songs are rounded out with live drums and minimal synthesisers with all the mistakes kept in for maximum human feel and emotion.

"We wanted to hear beautiful guitar and drums and an otherworldliness, something almost indefinable along with a classic song writing vibe. We're always trying to get the sound we hear inside of ourselves, so we moved fast to avoid our brains getting in the way too much. The name Slow Air evokes the feel of the album to me, steady, eerie and beautiful."  Tessa Murray

The album title is derived from the sultry heat in Texas which causes everything and everyone to slow down.  While writing Slow Air, Still Corners found inspiration in the change of leaving England for the States and traveling around the massive expanse that is North America from the deserts of Texas and Arizona to the beaches of California and mountainous regions of the north east.

Recorded in a new studio designed by Greg Hughes in Austin, TX, Still Corners focused on a recording process that was as fluid and minimal as possible. Using a variety of microphones both old and new, the band recorded and mixed this new set of songs in three months.  Keeping everything fresh and not over-thinking moved the album to the finish line faster than any album Still Corners had written and recorded before.  Joe Laporta made the finishing touches at Sterling Sound in NYC.

Black Lagoon, the lead single/video from Slow Air has the band on a journey from the desert to the ocean in search of a lost eden. Filmed over a month in Texas, Arizona and California and shot on a small handheld cinema camera, the band travels across America in a white mustang convertible searching and reaching into the unknown.

The band will be touring in North America and Europe this autumn.
